Jesus Christ And His Tennis Shoes
I received the following excerpts from a friend of mine today;
****"Our "moral imperative" as Americans is to get this done. Do not be the silent majority...speak out for the 12,000,000 people who have lost their health care. People are dying because they are being denied coverage for necessary treatments. We must ask ourselves why this has taken 40 years to get done?
How is it moral and justified for senior citizens to be fed lies about losing their Medicare and that "death panels" will decide whether they will be allowed to live or die? Where were all these people when Bush spent millions of dollars on a needless war that cost thousands of lives? This is not a partisan issue ...it is an American issue! It is not a racial issue...it is an American issue!
The Health Care Industry is spending $ 2,000,000 a day to fight this reform. Ask yourselves why? Why have Health Care insurance costs risen as much as 43% while services have diminished?
Our voices do count! Put an end to the rantings of the lunatic fringe who call themselves "patriotic" Americans and Christians. The lunatic fringe who won't allow their children to listen to a speech by the President on staying in school and working hard no matter what your background is. The lunatic fringe who won't allow a healthy debate in a town hall meeting and shouted down the woman in a wheelchair who feared that her home would be lost because of her health care costs. They will not rest until they take down Obama and therein lies the problem. Ask yourself if you want to be a part of that.
We are better than this......so please speak out and stand up for what is just and right!!!!!! September 11 brought us together as a nation and so should this!
Peace" ****
It was very well-put and true.
I'm so fricking tired of people comparing President Obama to Hitler. And screaming "SOCIALIST". They don't even know what that means... They've been caught up truly, in lunacy. And the really unfortunate part? They have guns.
But, before I get carried away on a tangent, let's just very briefly look at some of our allies that lean toward socialistic ideals.
According to a report released by the Organization for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD), happiness levels are highest in "socialist" European countries like Denmark, Finland, and Sweden. While the U.S. didn't even make it to the top 10. (source)
Sweden mostly consists of private industry, but many well-funded government social programs are offered. Universal healthcare and government-provided education at all levels is made available.
They may lean towards socialist societies, but they're still democracies.
And the last time I checked, Sweden wasn't oppressing its citizens, but taking care of them. Nor is Sweden taking over the world, unless you include Ikea.
And besides, we already have socialized medicine here in the States. It's called the VA and Medicare.
People don't even know what the fuck they're mad about. They don't even know what's going on, but they're sure pissed about it.
"How much easier it is to be critical than to be correct."

Analysis: 'You lie!' further erodes discourse
I have a different theory. Is it any wonder that Joe "You Lie" Wilson is from South Carolina? Does anyone remember from their American History classes that a vital transcription was left out of the Declaration of Independence because of greedy businessmen (racist plantation owners) in Georgia and South Carolina?
A portion of the original draft of the Declaration of Independence denouncing slavery was removed from the final document in order to secure the unanimous vote needed for approval, Georgia and South Carolina refused to vote for independence as long as this paragraph was in the Declaration. (source)
Imagine... Imagine what our country would be like if it had been born without slavery. If it had truly been born with all people created equal.
I have a distinct feeling that no matter WHAT President Obama proposes, these bigot hillbillies are going to have something to say. And it will never be based in logic. (Health Care Debate Based on Total Lack of Logic)
Thousands march to US Capitol to protest spending
Where were these dumb fuckers when we were about to invade a sovereign nation that had NOTHING to do with 9/11? Where were they when we started learning of the cost of that un-necessary war and the no-bid contracts that followed for companies that had ties to that administration??
And as a veteran myself, HOW DARE they not march against that administration that NEEDLESSLY put our service men and women in harm's way. That administration toyed with lives. Literally sent people to their deaths, all cloaked in lies. And these pieces of shit did nothing. They probably sat on their dumb, trash asses watching Nascar.
And where were these dumb fuckers when our rights were being eroded away in front of our very eyes and we were on the precipice of a fascist state? Fascist America, in 10 easy steps
And who, pray tell, were fascists?

That's Mussolini in case you didn't recognize him standing right side up. (As opposed to being hung upside down in Piazzale Loreto, Milan.)

And of course, this sick fuck.
They were fascists, not socialists. There's a difference.
And when I think of true "Socialists", people that we idolize in history who would most likely seem to be the ones most inclined to take care of the needy, the meek and the weak? Who would seem most likely to be inclined to SHARE??
Well, the first two I think of are;

Big Mama-T
And

Jazzy J.C.
Yeah, bishes... THINK about it. Mother Teresa was all, "Here, have my soup and we can split this Budweiser." And Jesus was all, "Here, have my sneakers and you can borrow my i-pod." Or something like that...
These extremist freaks who consider themselves "Christians" would kill Jesus Christ all over again. They'd be the first in line to tell him to sell more fish to pay for his cancer treatment, even if his cancer was preventing him from being able to fish in the first place.

I love the way you look at things, you make me laugh and that was PRE COFFEE ! Can you believe it ?
It's incredibly sad watching this day after day, the ignorance is astounding.
Kevin,
Fantastic post. It's nice to see some semblance of reason during this chaos. I've been amazed at how "unchristian" the crazy christian right is being on health-care as they scream about debt but since they haven't been programed to have a problem with the trillion dollar Iraq war debt by Fox news, they must feel like that debt doesn't count. I just briefly address this in my post criticizing Ari Fleischer and Bush on jumping into the war.
And Rachel Maddow's piece on the backing of the 9-12 nuts was great. I wasn't aware of where the money was coming from.
Kim - Thank you, my friend! Glad I could help. :)
Yeah... fear is a pretty amazing tool. Unfortunately, one of the strongest human emotions going.
Mitch - Thank you so much. Yeah, the origins behind the smoke and mirrors of "Freedom Works" is just frightening. Truly. And thanks for your link. I'm headed there now!
Just found your blog, and this post is superb. As someone said, no one should be allowed to use the term "socialism" in public until they have been able to define it. As a non-American (=non-crazy), non-"evangelical" Christian, I am so appalled by the behaviour of the "religious right" that I have to keep reminding myself: it's not Jesus I have an issue with, but some of the members of his fan club are a bit much.
There is nobody less Christian than the Christian right. Small-minded haters, the lot of 'em.
Just found your blog via The Bloggess. I'm British and, frankly, it's terrifying to see what's happening over there. These people are not doing the international image of your country any favours at all. When comments they were making about the British National Health Service were being broadcast, I was stuck, with my jaw hitting the floor, halfway between complete outrage and hysterical laughter. Knowing that if my jaw really had fallen off, I could call an ambulance which would reach me in under 5 minutes, take me to my nearest state of the art Accident and Emergency Department, where I would be seen in under half an hour and, if necessary, a bed found for me. I would have had surgery (if necessary), been fed and cared for, and given all the medication I needed. If it was required, hospital transport could get me home. FOR FREE, PEOPLE! 47 million Americans don't have access to this kind of care and those that don't want them receive it have the nerve to call themselves members of a civilised society....? It totally beggars belief. Oh, and as for the 'death panel'? Obviously the idiots over there haven't noticed that over here actually being allowed the right to die humanely when we feel like it is something many people are FIGHTING the health establishment for!
Thank you Kevin.
We have family in Denmark. Who are glued to American politics - partly because of their dual citizenship and partly because of the trainwreck that it is. I cannot imagine what will happen if these people make progress. I CANNOT imgine living here and I'll go nuts if I think about it too much. I'm tired of trying to reason with unreasonable people who deface OUR president and it makes me sadder than I ever thought I could be about the future of America. It's nice to know I'm not the only one...hopefully, HOPEFULLY there will come a day when we can look back and see how far we've come. Truly. And we can be all of the things we "say" we are, mainly, that being independent and FREE. Because I'd sure like to be free of all this bs, NOW.
See? I totally lost my train of thought there - started talking about our Denmark family and then veerred way off - so to address that, our family has a wonderful, happy, healthy life in Denmark. I've coveted their way of life for as long as I've been able to appreciate it and let me tell you - it that's what it's all about, sign me up! ("Socialism") It's much better than living here with these nutjobs.
Kevin,
You have such a wonderful way of presenting things... you are deep, sincere, and funny.
I really wish you wrote for a national publication so more people could see what you have to say.
I have learned more from this post than I have from many, many news reports.
Thank you.
Fat Lady - Thanks so much for stopping by and for the extreme compliment. And you're absolutely right... I'm not a "Christian", but these idiots are giving Christ a bad name.
Whit - So true, brother.
Mrs. Jones - Thank you for stopping by. And it IS terrifying. It's embarrassing and terrifying. It's like the American intellect has been sabotaged, or being held captive. As an American, it's so disturbing to me. I love what I was taught that America was, and this isn't it.
Carrie - Amen, Sister. Does your family in Denmark have room for us? When my back isn't a disaster, I'm good in the garden and I like to do dishes. And I can sing and dance. And I read poetry quite well. Would they have us?
Tami - You are SO welcome. And thank you to you too, my friend. And I would like nothing more than to write for a national (hell, INTERnational) publication. In fact, I'd like my own show, if I were to be honest. Hummm....
Thanks again, baby.
I don't know whether to laugh or be offended. I don't like Obama I think he is ignorant. I didn't like Bush for that matter either. I am from the south and I hate the health care reform. Survival of the fittest. I am sorry if you get sick and can't pay for it. I am sorry that your families will watch you die a horrific death. But not everyone is supposed to live to be a hundred you dying off, well that is population control. Yes I own a gun. Yes I am a Christian. Yes I am a republican.
My thought is this. Instead of making me pay for people govermental support how about making Doctors and Farmers do pro bono work? Lawyers have to do a certain amount each year, why not every body else? I am all for me being required to give a couple hours of my time a week to some under priviledged people in my community.
Oh wait I already do that voluntarily. I don't like being told what I have to do. I am angry about this healthcare bullshit, but I am not at town meetings yelling or protesting anywhere. I was made as hell about this stupid ass war too, but again I was not at any meetings or doing anything to protest it.
Why should I? I am just some dumb, christian, redneck, southern, hillbillie, nigger hater with a gun!
Is that really what you think? Man I do know what to be, I am offended!
So Deb, I appreciate you commenting. Truly, I do. But even republican friends of mine agree that there needs to be SOME kind of health care reform. Do you not believe in ANY kind of reform? What about people being turned down because of pre-existing conditions? What about people being dropped from coverage when something serious happens? What about the immense profits the health insurance companies are making while denying people coverage?
I don't believe you're dumb. But, I do believe you're uneducated as to the corporate greed that's currently driving the health insurance industry.
OH and you wouldn't really be paying for someone else's coverage. Unless you make over $200,000 a year. But even then, no one's coverage is going to be free.
But, you seem to be fine for paying for their LACK of coverage through bankruptcies that are filed. The amount of bankruptcies filed nationwide due to a lack of appropriate health care is overwhelming. And that costs the American tax payer.
I like the idea of the pro bono work. I think that's a fine idea. And I applaud you for yours.
However, I saw on your blogger home page is says "Yoga" and "Spirituality". REALLY? REALLY???
Oh, and I hate to break it to you, but with an attitude like yours, you're no Christian. I believe Christ would be greatly saddened to think of your uncharitable heart.
P.S. Deb - while I appreciate your comment - you using a racial slur is totally uncalled for, despicable really, and speaks volumes about you. If you use it again on this website, even to prove your point, I'll immediately delete your comment.
Kevin-
My racial slur was just to prove a point and was not intended at all to be offensive, it is my experience that is what a lot of people think of people in the south.
I totally believe there needs to be some kind of health care reform. I think it is insane for people to be dropped from insurance for any reason. If you can pay for insurance then dammit you should be able to have it. I am not uneducated to the corporate greed of insurance companies. What they are doing is wrong and it needs to be fixed. I do not have the answer on how to fix it. I am even clueless as to what I think the best fix is. I do know that I do not like the choices that have been set before us. Yet here I stand with no other solution saying their solution sucks, which really is ignorant, but it is what it is.
Yes I am into yoga, I am spiritual, and I am a Christian. It saddens me that my opinion on just a couple things makes you think that it isn't possible to be all. Christian doesn't mean perfect, I have many, many flaws. What it means is I try to better myself and be more Christ like, hence my charity work with underpriviledged families in my community. Yoga and Spirituality those are things that keep me grounded and make me care about my mark on the world. I don't see where that has anything to do with my views on healthcare. I have a lot of beliefs as do you. This is only my opinion. I adore you Kevin and have been reading you for years, I just hate that you feel if someone disagrees with you on this that they are a dumb person.
Deb, I appreciate you coming back and further clarifying your thoughts. Really, I do. I don't think you're dumb. Before you clarified what you thought of the health insurance industry, I had to think that you were ignorant to what was going on, because you didn't specify any anger towards them. Just Obama and what Congress is trying to do. You didn't elude to the desire for any reform. And I thought that was odd.
And when you say such things as "Survival of the fittest", it just sounds a little harsh. And really, the first paragraph of your first comment was harsh. So, I thought to myself, How could she be spiritual? How could she be a "Christian" and have such strong feelings against providing people with fair choices?
The people that I refer to in my post is not you, Deb. I'm not generalizing about EVERYONE from the South. When I say "dumb fuckers", I'm referring to the incredibly uneducated people that are marching and joining the "tea baggers" - which I laugh EVERY TIME. "Tea bagging" is bouncing your scrotum (if you have one) off someone's forehead. Anyway, I'm referring to the people who are greatly misinformed. The ones who get their information from Glenn Beck and don't question it. Thus, my reference to people being mad about "socialism" and they weren't about "fascism" during Bush's administration. They don't know the difference. And actually, I'm not a total socialist, but I do admire socialistic ideals like I stated in my post.
I'm sorry if it seemed like I was calling you "dumb", Deb. I really am. But, before you clarified about the health care debate, I thought you were ignorant. And actually, you referred to Obama as ignorant. And he has different ideas than you... But, these people who are mad about what's just not true, I have to think that they're stunted in someway. And they are dumb.
I welcome different ideas and opinions. However, if we're going to argue over a differing of opinions, it should be based on "facts". Don't you agree?
I agree it should be based on facts, hell most of my opinions aren't based on facts they are based purely on my emotions and my gut feelings.
Survival of the fittest is harsh. Hell it is horrible to think that way, but I believe it is necessary when I factor in so many other beliefs. Like I believe global warming and the environment are directly related to the ever growing population. People used to start dying off a lot earlier, with the elderly living longer (thanks to great medicine) and the unhealthy surviving horrible disease and people thinking 19 and counting is the perfect sized family, we have some population issues. I believe the planet is cleansing itself. Mother Nature is a powerful bitch! I truly believe in survival of the fittest. As horrible and horrific as that is, I believe it is natures way.
I could be wrong. But I could also be right.
So glad u don't think I am dumb!
Deb, it's true. People are living longer, but also infant mortality is lower. The childhood diseases aren't killing off vast amounts of people anymore - thus the higher life expectancies.
I understand "survival of the fittest", but I was dying 10 years ago from a rare genetic disease that I never knew I had. I'm one of the lucky ones. It's always fatal unless caught and treated in an appropriate amount of time. I was fortunate because my doctor caught it and I had the insurance to cover it. However, if I were born 100 years ago, I'd be dead. So, please forgive me if I'm not completely on-board with the whole "Survival of the fittest" thing - 'cause I'd be toast.
I do agree that the earth is being destroyed by our carbon footprints. And the use of fossil fuels in disastrous. And we are over-populated and the earth will correct herself. I couldn't agree with you more.
So glad you aren't toast, I get why you aren't on board with that. Nobody wants to die. But there are 3 basic Must Do's in life, Live, Die, Pay taxes! :)
