The Name Game

So, I called some friends the other day with some news that might be extremely good. But, I'm not certain of it yet, so I won't share it with you until I know for sure. But, in any case, it could be great...Or not so much. I wanted to share it with them regardless.

When I called and I mentioned it, my one friend was thrilled. Then, the other said something half-assed, then started spouting bullshit about Barack Hussein Obama. And kept emphasizing his middle name. It was after that half-wit attempt by Nil Dumbingham, an ignorant-bigoted talk radio show host in Cincinnati introduced John McCain.

And then it reminded me of the email smear campaign trying to claim all kinds of stupid shit about Senator Obama not saying the Pledge of Allegiance, not touching a Bible and being Muslim.

All of which, are lies.

It's not that the claims are false, they're LIES. "False" is too kind a word. And anyone who just blindly sends them along are complicit in spreading lies...Which makes them liars.

So, when my one friend started gossiping, clucking like a brain-numbed hen, I just rolled my eyes. But, I also felt a sick feeling in the bottom of my stomach. I had called them to express joy and hope and wanted to hear a friend's reassurance that even if what might happen, doesn't, that it's still okay.

I heard it. From my one fantastic friend. But, the other was consumed with hatred that is steeped and brewed in rash-ignorance.

"Kevin Steven Charnas"

I didn't name myself. And if I had, I wouldn't have picked this bullshit. I would've picked...I don't know..."Hercules Agoobugu" or... "Fantasia Iwantsomefood". Or... "Marsha F-in' Brady"...See? It's good that my parents named me, I don't know what the hell I'd call myself anyway.

And I have a distinct feeling that it's quite similar for Senator Obama. I have a feeling that if given the choice, he may have named himself "Fantasia Brady".

I also have a distinct feeling that his parents had no premonition that around the time that their son was going to be running for President of the United States, that the country would've recently dealt with a tyrant that shared his middle name. Or that a villain with a similar first name to their last name would've attacked the country some years before...

My boyfriend, Barack, isn't Muslim. He has never been Muslim. But, if he was, what the fuck? Look at what a supposed "Christian" has done to the country (and the world) in the last 7 years. If nothing else, he's given true Christians a bad name.

McCain when asked afterwards if it was appropriate to use the Senator's middle name, said, "No, it is not. Any comment that is disparaging of either Senator Clinton or Senator Obama is totally inappropriate."

WHY IS IT DISPARAGING TO USE HIS MIDDLE NAME?

Can people NOT decipher the difference between Barack Obama and Saddam Hussein??

So, because they share names, they share and live by the same ideals???

In Nathan Thornburgh's article; Why Is Obama's Middle Name Taboo?

He writes, "So who gets to say Hussein? At the Oscars, host Jon Stewart took innuendo about as far as it can go, saying that Barack Hussein Obama running today is like a 1940's candidate named Gaydolph Titler."

When Will and I saw Jon Stewart crack that joke during the Oscars, we cringed. I KNEW that it was going to stir up the pot of the uneducated, the rash minds of the ignorant and the bigoted.

It seems like there has never been an "Age of Reason". And I'm tired of the stupid pulling humanity down. I'm tired of people NOT questioning information, or its sources, or circumstances, or events and the origins that give rise to them.

Education and libraries are FREE in this country. But, what is even more readily accessible is a QUESTIONING MIND, which leads to KNOWLEDGE. And I'm tired of people thinking that they don't need education or the skill of deductive reasoning in order to be a responsible, contributing member of a productive, evolved society.

I'm tired of being only as strong as our weakest member. Because that's pretty weak.

I love great first and middle name combinations... my son (like me) is Van Alan, my daughter is Vivienne Alaine. And it's just a name, it's so sad that a talk show topic has to spell it out for Dumbfuckistan (aka Red States)... or worse that a right wingnut attempts to smear someone using this...

I'll let you in on something I just learned about an hour ago. People are idiots.

Really! Who knew?

I'm happy for you and your possible good news and I don't even need to know it for that.

Peace out, Fantasia

Did you challenge this "friend" on being a one-issue voter? (Or in this case, a non-issue voter?). Because one-issue voters (issue being fear) have taken us down this not-so-merry road for the past seven years.
I'd like a bit of complexity in my country's leadership, please, with a side of common sense!

That would require them to actually WANT to be responsible and productive. Why do that when they can sit on their asses at home and blame the whole of society for their unhappiness? It's so much easier to sit home. (Rolling Eyes)

Pisses me off too

Fantasia Brady it is!

I didn't even think about John Stewart's comment as being dumb till now - so much for me being enlightened. Sigh.

HEY! FuriousBall! I LIVE in dumbfuckistan! sheez.... ;)

You'd be surprised at the reactions to my name. Men, particularly young man, blush - I received a telephone call from my state licensing board - "are you the actress Claudia Christian??"

The EV dark magic worshipers assume I'm one of them.

People are weird. We can only hope that in an educated society the muck rakers will not win.

But who knows how bush bought the first election? Let's just hope it doesn't happen again.
